The Standard

There are roughly 700,000 hotels in the world. We follow 148 of them.

Every property in our selection earned its place through consistent recognition from Condé Nast Traveller and Travel + Leisure — across their Gold Lists and World's Best rankings, year after year. A single appearance is not sufficient. The list does not grow on commercial grounds, on request, or by arrangement.

We call it The Velour Standard. It is not a score. It is a line.

It is not a score. It is a line.
The Intelligence

A hotel on The Velour Standard does not become more or less worthy based on its price. But its price moves — and when it drops below its historical baseline, that is the moment Velour was built for.

We scan rates daily. When one of our 148 hotels crosses the line, we surface it. That is what we do.

The Curators

Mr. Kim
& Coco

Two people. One standard. Not influencers — adventurers. The kind who travel for the quality of light in a room, the weight of a linen, the music playing in the hotel bar at midnight.

He notices the vibe. Whether the staff has read the room before you have. She notices the architecture — the height of a ceiling, the texture of upholstery, what the afternoon light does to a stone floor at four o'clock. One cool, one warm. Both uncompromising.

We keep faces mostly out of it. What you will find are hands, shadows, the occasional profile — traces of two people who have been moving through this list for years, before it became a list.

The hotel is always the hero. Mr. Kim & Coco are just the ones paying attention.

Velour Pick

Twelve hotels carry a Velour Pick designation. These are not simply on The Standard — they are the ones we return to. The ones that have earned a separate conversation.

A Velour Pick is not permanent. It is a current editorial position.

The Velour FAQ
What is Velour, exactly?
Velour is not a booking site. We monitor daily rates at 148 carefully selected luxury hotels — and surface the moment a price drops meaningfully. Think of us as a well-travelled friend who watches the market so you don't have to, and only gets in touch when it's genuinely worth your attention.
How do you choose the 148 hotels?
Every hotel in our collection holds consistent recognition from the world's leading travel editors. No property buys its way in. We apply what we call The Velour Standard: a hotel either meets it or it doesn't. The list is intentionally fixed — we believe curation means knowing what to leave out.
Why don't you show exact prices?
Because an exact price would mislead you. Rates shift by date, room category and availability — a number shown here may bear no relation to what you'll find when you actually search. Instead, we signal that a price drop has occurred. You click through to the current live price, always.
What's free, and what's Premium?
Free members see five active hotel deals at any time. Premium unlocks the full collection: every hotel with an active deal, direct email alerts the moment prices move, and the complete Velour archive. Premium costs NOK 49 per month — Original Member pricing, locked for life.
Do you earn money when I book?
Yes — if you book through one of our links, we receive a commission from Hotels.com. This comes at no extra cost to you. It's how we keep the platform running and the editorial independent. We never recommend a deal because it pays better. We recommend it because it's genuinely good.
Are you a travel agency?
No. We sell nothing directly. Velour is an editorial intelligence platform — we find the right hotels, watch their prices, and tell you when to move. The booking itself happens on Hotels.com, where you have full control.
The hotels are global. Is Velour only for Scandinavians?
Our audience is Scandinavian — Norwegian, Swedish and Danish travellers who take luxury travel seriously. The hotels themselves span every continent. We think good taste travels well.
Who are Mr. Kim & Coco?
Two people who have spent more time in hotel lobbies than is entirely reasonable. We keep a deliberate low profile — Velour is about the hotels, not us. What we can tell you: every word written here, every hotel selected, is ours.
